Stephen Sutton Multi Academy Trust

As many of you will be aware Chase Terrace Technology College became an Academy on 1st January 2017. CTTC is now part of the Stephen Sutton Multi Academy Trust. As a result of this change and following over 8 years of distinguished service to CTTC, Dr Stuart Jones has been appointed to the role of Executive Director of the SSMAT and I have taken over as Headteacher of CTTC. Having been at the school for the last 12 years as Deputy Head I am particularly delighted to take up this challenging but tremendously rewarding role. Chase Terrace is a great school, full of engaging young people and outstanding teachers, all of whom are determined to make a real difference in the lives of the young people that they work with.

Life as a teenager presents many challenges. The pressure to be successful in a world that you don’t yet fully understand, the advent of new technologies, digital information overload, the immediacy of everything, the ever present influence of social media and it’s frequently dubious role models coupled with a young person’s sense of invincibility all place a heavy responsibility on parents and carers to normalise and rationalise day to day life for their vulnerable offspring. Without wishing to appear old fashioned (– I love my iPhone!) – and during this season of Lent, when we traditionally give something up, maybe a few hours without these distractions would improve life? I do hope that families continue to spend quality time together around the dining table talking to each other. Human beings need this close interaction and interestingly, with this simple strategy you immediately fulfil Stephen’s mantra because you will be Living, Loving, Laughing and Learning.

As people from this community will know, being part of a Multi Academy Trust which carries the name of Stephen Sutton is something that we are immensely proud of. Our school community is built upon Stephen’s values and we quote his “Live, Love, Laugh, Learn” mantra on a daily basis. This helps us to promote a developing sense of resilience amongst our students who we hope display optimistic personal behaviour and positive relationships both in school and in the community.
